Our story
More than forty years with the fires lit
We are a Murcian restaurant family. Three generations, two restaurants and one street: Cánovas del Castillo, in the Santa Eulalia quarter, in the centre of Murcia.
1978
Los Toneles
It started as a bodegón, with the Murcian food everyone here grew up on: stews, local rice dishes, tapas, wine barrels and mulberry-wood tables. In 1996 María José Navarro took charge and carried that on. It is still open at number 7.
2011
Por Herencia
At number 9 we opened Por Herencia. The same heart, the produce of Murcia and its market gardens, but a different kitchen: the charcoal oven, and our own way of seeing it. We are the third generation, and our job has been to redefine the house style without losing sight of where it comes from.
Today
Abolengo and two guides
A tasting menu called Abolengo because that is what comes down from your grandparents, and two guides behind it: the Michelin Guide recommends us and the Repsol Guide has given us a Sol.
Where we come from
The photo that hangs in the dining room.
It hangs in the dining room at Por Herencia, next to the stone wall, to keep in mind where we come from: a family that has been feeding people on the same street for more than forty years. What we do today at number 9 comes from there: the produce of Murcia and the care of a family house.
