Murcian cooking, with a family name behind it.

Third generation of Murcian restaurateurs. We cook local produce over the coals, our own way, at number 9 Cánovas del Castillo, Murcia.

Cooking close to home

The produce of Murcia,
cooked just right.

The charcoal oven runs our kitchen. It is how this house cooks, and almost the whole menu goes through it: the fish, the lamb, the vegetables and even the figs in the dessert. The rest is down to the produce, and we look for it close by: wild fish from the fish market, Segureño lamb, Murcian Chato pork and vegetables from the Murcia market gardens, whatever the month brings.

Tasting menu

Abolengo

Abolengo is what comes down to you from your grandparents. We gave our tasting menu that name because that is what it is: what we were given at home, cooked with what we learned outside it. It changes with the season.

The chef and the house

Miguel Hernández, third generation

Los Toneles opened in 1978 at number 7 Cánovas del Castillo, with the Murcian food everyone here grew up on. In 2011 we opened Por Herencia at number 9, with the same produce of Murcia and its market gardens and a different kitchen, the charcoal oven. Miguel Hernández cooks what the family has been serving in the centre of Murcia for more than forty years, seen a different way.
